GageWay Pro QuickStart Guide

Let's start by communicating with the GageWay Pro

The first question you need to answer is where is your data going?

Keyboard Wedge
  • Is it going to a program such as Excel, Minitab or another program that requires keyboard entry?
    • Then you need to use the Keyboard Wedge USB Port in the back of the GageWay Pro

Serial USB Virtual COM Port
  • Is it going into an SPC program or other program that can monitor a Serial COM Port?
    • Then you need to use the Serial USB Port in the back of the GageWay Pro. 

Keyboard Wedge Connection

  1. Plug your digital gage(s) into the Channels on the front of the GageWay Pro.
  2. If using a hand switch or foot switch, plug it into the jack adjacent to the Channel with the gage connected.
    • The read switch jacks for each Channel are located to the right of the green LEDs. 
  3. Plug the USB cable into the Keyboard Wedge USB port on the back of the GageWay Pro. 
  4. Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on your computer. 
  5. Once plugged in, the LEDs on the GageWay Pro should light up for a few seconds. 
  6. Open Excel, Word, Notepad or your target application to verify you can get readings from the connected gages. 
  7. Take a reading with the connected gages.
    • Use the read button on the gage to take a reading. 
    • Press the foot switch or hand switch to take a reading. 
  8. You should see the reading come into the application you’re using for testing. Be sure to give the test application the focus by clicking on it.
  9. If you don’t need advanced setup, your GageWay Pro is ready for years of work!

Serial USB Virtual COM Port

  1. Download and install the USB VCP (Virtual COM Port) driver.
  2. Download and install the GageWay Pro Setup.
  3. Plug your digital gage(s) into the Channels on the front of the GageWay Pro.
  4. If using a hand switch or foot switch, plug it into the jack adjacent to the Channel with the gage connected.
    • The read switch jacks for each Channel are located to the right of the green LEDs. 
  5. Plug the USB cable into the Serial USB port on the back of the GageWay Pro. 
  6. Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on your computer. 
  7. Once plugged in , the LEDs on the GageWay Pro should light up for a few seconds.  
  8. Open GageWay Pro Setup and click “Find & Read the GageWay Pro Setup”
    • The “GageWay Pro connection status” section should populate. 
  9. Once you see the “GageWay Pro connection status” populate, you have confirmed communication with the GageWay Pro. Now let’s test your gages. 
  10. Click the S/P ComTestSerial Icon in the top toolbar of GageWay Pro Setup. 
  11. Take a reading with the connected gages.
    • Use the read button on the gage to take a reading. 
    • Press the foot switch or hand switch to take a reading. 
    • Click “Read All” in the “GageWay Pro Interface:” menu area at the bottom of ComTestSerial. 
  12. Now that the GageWay Pro is up and running, you will need to configure your SPC software to communicate with the GageWay Pro.
    • In your software you’ll likely need to do the following:
      •  Select the COM port the GageWay Pro is connected to. 
      • Set the Communication Parameters for the COM Port.
        • GageWay Pro default communication parameters:
          • Baud Rate: 9600
          • Parity: None
          • Data Bits: 8
          • Stop Bits: 1
        • Need different communication parameters? You can configure that in GageWay Pro Setup
  13. If you don’t need advanced setup, your GageWay Pro is ready for years of work!
