⚠️ Action Required: MC-MM-M3 Part Number Retirement

The Mini Mobile Module M3 (MC-MM-M3) is retired effective May 4, 2026. It is replaced by the Mini Mobile Module M3-EVO (MC-MM-M3-EVO). If MC-MM-M3 appears in your Approved Supplier List, Bill of Materials, purchase orders, ERP system, or QMS documentation, update the part number to MC-MM-M3-EVO.

All existing M3 gage connectors and RM2.4 Base Receivers are fully compatible with the M3-EVO. We also strongly recommend updating MobileCollect Xpress Setup and MobileCollect Extended Setup to the latest version to avoid setup issues with the Mini Mobile Module M3-EVO.

Introduction

Today, MicroRidge Systems is launching the Mini Mobile Module EVO (MC-MM-M3-EVO) — the direct successor to the Mini Mobile Module M3 and the most significant update to our most compact wireless gage transmitter since its introduction. The M3-EVO delivers 800,000+ readings on a single CR2032 — a massive improvement over the already industry-leading M3 — introduces OpenGage Mode for any 3V UART device, and is built on a new chipset architected for future capability expansion.

Below is everything you need to know about what’s new, what’s changing, and what stays the same.

What’s New in the Mini Mobile Module EVO

800,000+ Readings — Including in Continuous Read Mode

The M3-EVO raises the already industry-leading battery rating to 800,000+ readings on a single standard CR2032 coin cell — up from 500,000+ on the M3. The operational ceiling for standard use cases is now significantly higher than before.

The more consequential improvement is in Continuous Read Mode. The M3 was rated at approximately 140,000 readings in continuous operation due to the sustained power draw of interval-based capture. The M3-EVO delivers 800,000+ readings in Continuous Read Mode as well — a nearly 6x improvement that significantly reduces battery replacement as a routine maintenance item for most continuous-capture deployments.

Battery chemistry and form factor are unchanged — standard CR2032, universally available, no proprietary cells.

New Chipset — A Platform Built for What’s Next

The M3-EVO is built on a new, faster internal processor. The increased processing headroom is what enabled the power architecture behind the 800,000+ continuous read rating and the low-power UART implementation underlying OpenGage Mode. It is a deliberate platform investment, not simply an incremental spec revision.

It also means the M3-EVO is architected to support additional capabilities as MicroRidge continues to develop the MobileCollect platform. We’re not ready to announce specifics yet — but the engineering work already underway on the M3-M3-EVO platform points toward features that existing Mini Mobile Module users have been asking for. Stay tuned.

OpenGage Mode

OpenGage Mode is a new selectable operating mode built on a low-power UART implementation developed by MicroRidge. It enables any device communicating at 3V UART to transmit data wirelessly over RM2.4 — the same proven industrial wireless protocol that powers the entire MobileCollect product line.

The original M3 was purpose-built for digital gages with SPC/Digimatic outputs. OpenGage Mode removes that constraint. Any 3V UART device — whether a torque gauge, environmental sensor, Arduino-based custom test fixture, load cell, barcode reader, or ESP32-based end-of-line tester — can now access RM2.4’s industrial wireless infrastructure without custom RF hardware design.

If it speaks 3V UART, it speaks RM2.4.

For quality and embedded controls engineers building custom measurement infrastructure, OpenGage Mode delivers RM2.4’s 32-bit encrypted transmission, 140-foot industrial range, and noise resilience in the 2.4 GHz ISM band from virtually any microcontroller-based measurement device — with no additional RF engineering overhead.

OpenGage Mode is configured via the Xpress or Extended Setup Program and is included on every MC-MM-M3-EVO at no additional cost. For full wiring diagrams, data packet timing, and code examples, see the OpenGage Mode Feature Guide.

Built on RM2.4 — MicroRidge's Industrial Wireless Protocol

The Mini Mobile Module M3-EVO transmits on RM2.4, MicroRidge’s proprietary 2.4 GHz wireless protocol engineered specifically for industrial measurement data collection. Unlike general-purpose wireless technologies, RM2.4 is purpose-built for the factory floor — designed to deliver reliable, deterministic data transmission in environments with heavy RF interference, machinery noise, and the kind of signal congestion that causes consumer wireless protocols to drop readings.

RM2.4 operates with 32-bit encrypted transmission, a 140-foot industrial range, and closed-loop per-reading confirmation — meaning every reading is verified as received before the next one is captured. That’s the infrastructure OpenGage Mode plugs into. Whether you’re running a Mitutoyo caliper or a custom Arduino sensor fixture, the data moves over the same proven protocol.

If you’re evaluating wireless options for your measurement environment, see why Bluetooth falls short in manufacturing applications and how RM2.4 addresses those gaps directly.

Mini Mobile Module M3 (MC-MM-M3) — Retirement and Transition Guide

The Mini Mobile Module M3 is retired as of May 4, 2026 and is no longer available for purchase through MicroRidge or any authorized reseller. The MC-MM-M3-EVO is the direct replacement.

Review the following systems and update any instance of MC-MM-M3 to MC-MM-M3-EVO:

  • Approved Supplier List (ASL)
  • Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Open or recurring purchase orders
  • ERP or MRP system part master records
  • Internal MRO and inventory management systems
  • Quality management system documentation — control plans, PFMEAs, work instructions

The MC-MM-M3-EVO is a direct drop-in replacement for gage connectors and Base Receivers. We strongly recommend updating MobileCollect Xpress Setup and MobileCollect Extended Setup to the latest version to eliminate setup issues with the Mini Mobile Module M3-EVO.

What Stays the Same

The M3-EVO is a generational platform upgrade, not an ecosystem change. Full backward compatibility is maintained:

  • Compatible with all RM2.4 Base Receivers — Legacy and EVO models
  • All existing M3 gage connectors are fully compatible with the M3-EVO
  • All existing read modes retained: Single, Continuous, and TIR
  • Two-LED closed-loop confirmation system (Gage Read + Host Accept) unchanged
  • 140-foot wireless range, 32-bit encrypted RM2.4 transmission
  • Compatible with all MobileCollect-compatible PC software and SPC applications
  • FCC, IC, CE, RoHS2, REACH certifications retained
