Using wireless devices in an industrial setting can often be problematic due to the presence of RF noise. MobileCollect’s RM2.4 protocol was designed from the ground up for use in industrial environments where high amounts of RF noise would lead to communication failures for other wireless protocols such as Bluetooth. To utilize RM2.4 wireless to send data from a Mobile Module Transmitter to a Base Receiver, a one-time Pairing operation is required before operation. Due to the nature of the RM2.4 protocol, the pairing function only needs to be done once. There are 3 ways to pair a Mobile Module to a Base Receiver.
This feature guide will walk you through pairing your Mobile Module with the Xpress Setup Program.
Configuring Mobile Module Transmitters requires putting them in setup mode. To place a Mobile Module in setup mode, follow the sequence of button presses below. Once in Setup mode, initiate a pairing request by pressing the Setup button once.
Red and Green LEDs will Blink 5x then flash rapidly = Setup Mode (~15-60 sec)
If your SPC software doesn’t require channel identification to track which gage produced a reading, you can use the Global Channel to simplify setup. With the Global Channel, all incoming measurements are treated the same way and sent to the host using one consistent output format, rather than managing separate channel mappings for each device.

If your SPC software supports gage and measurement traceability by channel identifiers, you can pair each Mini Mobile Transmitter to its own dedicated channel. This ensures every reading arrives with a consistent channel identifier, allowing the software to automatically associate data with the correct gage, part feature, or inspection step. Pairing transmitters to individual channels reduces operator selection errors and makes it easier to audit which device produced each measurement.

Pairing Mobile Module Transmitters to Base Receivers is a fundamental step in deploying a reliable MobileCollect system in any facility. With Xpress Setup, you have two simple options: pair on the Global Channel for straightforward collection when channel identification isn’t needed, or pair to individual channels for gage traceability and automated tracking in SPC software.
