WedgeLink AT QuickStart Guide

Let's start by communicating with the WedgeLink AT

Do you need WedgeLink AT's advanced features?

I don't need the advanced features.

I would like to connect an RS-232 device and send that data straight through.
I’m unsure of the Baud rate on my RS-232 device.

I will need advanced features.

I need to parse the data from my RS-232 device.
I would like to remove part of the data from the RS-232 device.
I would like to replace part of the data from the RS-232 device.
I would like to use a hand switch or footswitch to initiate a reading.
I would like to change the EOP (end-of-packet) character.
My serial device sends continuously and I don’t want data continuously.

Basic Setup

For those who do not need WedgeLink AT's advanced features

Plug the USB Cable into the Wedge USB Port on the back of the WedgeLink AT.
Connect your RS-232 Device to the DB9 on the front of the WedgeLink AT.
Let’s use Auto Baud Detection to connect your RS-232 Device. Note, your device must have the ability to send a reading with the press of a button.
- Press and release the Reset button on the back of the WedgeLink AT. (Same side as the USB Connections)
- The LED will briefly display red and then display green for 5 seconds.
- While the LED is green, send a reading from your RS-232 device.
- The LED should blink green 5 times if Auto Baud was successful.
  - If the LED blinks red 5 times or turns off without blinking, please refer to the Auto Baud Rate Detection document below.
Open Excel, Word, Notepad or your target application to verify you can get a reading from the RS-232 device.
Take a reading with the RS-232 device.
You should see the reading come into the application you’re using for testing. Be sure to give the test application the focus by clicking on it.
Your WedgeLink AT is setup and ready for years for work!

Advanced Setup

Download and install the USB VCP (Virtual COM Port) driver.
Download and install WedgeLink AT Setup Software.
Plug the USB Cable into the “RS-232 & Prog” USB port on the back of the WedgeLink AT.
Connect your RS-232 Device to the DB9 on the front of the WedgeLink AT.
If using a hand switch or foot switch, plug it into the jack located on the front of the WedgeLink AT.
Open WedgeLink AT Setup and configure the WedgeLink AT for your specific application.

Once you have configured the parameters to your needs in WedgeLink AT Setup, you’ll need to click “Send Setup to WedgeLink” to send your custom setup to the WedgeLink AT.
Move the USB cable on the WedgeLink AT from the “RS-232 & Prog” USB port to the “Wedge” USB port.
Open Excel, Word, Notepad or your target application to verify you can get a reading from the connected RS-232 device.
Take a reading with the connected RS-232 device.
- Press the “send data” button on your RS-232 device.
- If configured, press the foot switch or hand switch to take a reading.
- If configured, press the read button on the front of the WedgeLink AT that is located directly below the LED.
You should see the reading come into the application you’re using for testing. Be sure to give the test application focus by clicking on it.
Your WedgeLink AT is setup and ready for years for work!
